This program provides great information on two very important topics; Legislative Updates and Retrofitting A2L refrigerants in existing buildings.

Rick Simms is back by popular demand with information on Retrofitting A2L Refrigerants in Existing Buildings.
There have always been limitations for how many pounds of refrigerant can be allowed within various types of occupancy. Refrigerant charge limitations for HCFCs and HFCs were imposed to assure the safety of our existing buildings. The HFC phase-down promises to promote use of low flammability A2L systems and disrupt availability of HFC equipment options for many of those buildings. This program will answer the following:

  • How do I comply with codes and assure safety?

  • Does the code allow an A1 system to be replaced by an A2L system
  • in a single family residential home? What about commercial buildings?
  • How do those refrigerant charge limits reduce for A2Ls?
  • How many pounds of A2L refrigerant can I have
  • How big is my leak area? How to identify "leak dispersion area".
  • Why does it matter if the system is ductless?
  • Does my AHU or DHU need to have a refrigerant leak detector?
  • What does the leak detector have to do in alarm mode?

The discussion focuses on the most commonly encountered system types in existing buildings of south Florida. Will not cover low probability systems, commercial refrigeration systems or systems located in approved machine rooms. It also includes a brief summary of recent declaratory statement concerning petition from Broward County.
